Ayurveda aims a holistic approach to healing that is concerned with the body’s treatment. In the whole process, a person must undergo a change in his lifestyle which often comes with the change in clothing style, and sometimes even his dwelling place. Ayam and vyayam, gati and yogasadhana are few of the important elements that are coming along with the ayurvedic medicine.
Kaya Chikitsa (General Medicine)
It is the main branch of Astanga Ayurveda, better known as the eight-branched ayurveda which deals with the practice of general medicine. It is the total medicinal approach or sometimes called internal medicine. The word “kaya” means body and the word “chikitsa” means treatment.
What It Deals On
It is mainly concerned with the treatment and diagnosis of diseases, like diabetes, tuberculosis, skin allergies, rheumatoid arthritis and other major disorders.
Charaka Samhita. This is the main scripture of the general medicine. It aims for the basic principles of treatment, and the various types of purification and therapies, and even detoxification. Based from the principles of natural medicine, the person’s body is the result of the constant psychosomatic interactions and disorders that are caused by the imbalance of the body’s trishods.
The Imbalance of the Doshas
When the balance of doshas---pitta, kapha vata—--happens, a person gets sick. It is the caused by a person’s mind and sometimes due to the body’s mala or toxin deposits and dhatu or tissues. It is when kaya chikitsa comes into view.
It is the branch of holistic and alternative medicine that is primarily ascertaining the main cause of a disorder.
The whole Ayurvedic medicine is depending on the theme of Agni. The aim of Kaya (Agni) is responsible and uniquely working for biotransformation. It believes that energy is neither created nor destroyed. In the person’s body, Kaya gives the important energy for all activities. The energy we have is from the food we are eating and the air we are breathing. Our body’s biological system works in transforming the energy for the whole body.

There are six known forms of treatment such as aggravation; relocation accumulation and overflow comprise the new site and the manifestation into a known disease.
Kaya Chikitsa believes that there is always a solution to prevent and stop a disorder, thereby, applying its total manifestation. One of the most known forms of treatment is the panchakarma.
In this method, the whole body is then purified from the affected dosha to work for happiness and homogenizes. This alternative medicine deals on the reversal of disease’s path working from manifestation phase back into the site of development by of purgation, emesis, and enema.
Rejuvenation is another aspect of Kaya Chikitsa that is clearly defined as the body’s renewal. Based from the teachings of Ayurveda, the body is composed of 7 dhatu or tissues’ form such as the blood, plasma, fat, blood, muscle, bone, reproductive fluids and marrow.
To keep a person’s youthfulness, Kaya Chikitsa teaches mental and physical disciplinary actions using medicinal preparation that makes up the body tissues and cells after the first step of detoxification by panchakarma.
