What is Cranberry juice derived from?

The juice is derived from Cranberries which are groups of dwarf plants and they belong to the genus Oxycoccos. They are found along parts of Northern Hemisphere. It belongs to the Ericaceae family and scientists have traced its origins to North America.

How to avail the benefits of Cranberry juice?

Many people prefer cranberry juice because of its taste and enhancement of energy levels. It is better to take the juice without any artificial flavors or preservatives to avail of the health benefits. There are many brands of cranberry juice sold in shops by merchants, but the cranberry will constitute only 30% and the extra beverages will be water, sugar and other chemicals to give taste. Pure cranberry juice can be bitter or tart. It is also better to drink juices which have cranberry as the largest constituent. The juice was first prepared by American settlers in the 17th century.

Benefits of cranberry juice

The cranberry juice is a rich source of Vitamin C, dietary fiber, manganese, calcium, potassium, sodium, Vitamin A and beta-carotene.

Urinary tract infection: Pure cranberry juice produces hippuric acid in urine causing acidification and prevention of bacteria from getting stuck in the walls of the urinary bladder. This prevents infections and reduces the chance of getting cystitis. Proanthocyanidins are powerful anti-oxidants which are present in cranberry juice and reduce the formation of bacteria in the bladder cells. These anti-oxidants also prevent the growth of cancer cells, rapid growth of tumors and duplication of breast cancer cells.

Health of Cardiovascular system: It contains polyphenols which promotes the enhancement of good cholesterol and reduces the formation of bad cholesterol. Prevention of tooth decay: It prevents bacteria from getting adhered to the teeth and inhibits the creation of dental plaques and cavities in tooth.

Normal diseases: It can cure colds and sore throats. Prevention of kidney stones: Due to the high amount of acid content in the juice, it prevents the formation of kidney stones. Prevention of osteoporosis: The extra calcium present in juice helps to strengthen bones which decrease the risk of getting osteoporosis. It also prevents stomach ulcers by destroying the H. pylori bacteria present in the stomach.
